Menotropin (also called human menopausal gonadotropin or HMG) is an active substance for the treatment of fertility disturbances. It consists of gonadotropins that are extracted from the urine of postmenopausal women, usually luteinizing (LH) andfollicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Often, it contains human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) as well.
FUNCTION: Menotropin preparations are used for stimulating hormones by triggering FSH and LH production in the body. This drug was originally designed for use in women where it stimulates the ovaries to produce multiple follicles, thus making them more fertile.
It is a highly effective and rapid inerythrocytic insecticide for plasmodium parasites. It is used for the treatment of chloroquine falciparum malaria and dangerous malaria, showing rapid effect and good short-term efficacy.
